Pro Junior Action Continues On Australia’s East Coast With Murf Electric Bikes Noosa Pro Junior Presented by Surfboard Empire

NOOSA, Queensland, Australia - The region's best up-and-coming surfers have arrived on Queensland's Noosa Shire this week for the World Surf League (WSL) Murf Electric Bikes Noosa Pro Junior Presented by Surfboard Empire, which kicked off today, August 25, and runs through to August 26 at Sunshine Beach.

As the final event of the 2026 WSL Australia/Oceania Junior Tour season, the Noosa Pro Junior will play a pivotal role in deciding this year's regional champions. With valuable ranking points and the opportunity to compete in the 2026 WSL World Junior Championships on the line, the event has attracted fierce competition from the region's top surfers aged 20-and-under.

Fresh off a win at last weekend's Murf Electric Bike Tweed Coast Pro Junior, Ocean Lancaster (AUS) has all but locked in his spot at the World Junior Championships, but will need to lock in a spot in the Quarterfinals at Noosa to be sure. With Dane Henry (AUS) already securing a spot as the reigning winner, the second men's spot will then be well and truly up for grabs, with anyone in the Top 5 on the rankings still in with a chance to secure a spot in El Salvador. 

On the women's side, the qualification pool is a little smaller, with it coming down to surfers inside the top 5 still with a chance. Willow Hardy (AUS) holds the top spot in the rankings while Milla Coco Brown (AUS) sits in second. Both surfers, along with other competitors in contention, will hit the water at Sunshine Beach tomorrow in the Quarterfinals.

Tomorrow's Finals Day will not only decide the 2026 WSL Australia / Oceania Pro Junior Series winners but also the winners of the inaugural Murf Coast Cup. 

The Murf Electric Bikes Noosa Pro Junior, together with the Murf Electric Bikes Tweed Coast Pro Junior, have formed the inaugural Murf Coast Cup, a new two-event WSL Pro Junior series designed to strengthen Australia's high-performance surfing pathway. The series provides the country's best junior surfers with back-to-back opportunities to earn valuable WSL ranking points while competing at two of Australia's most iconic surfing destinations.

The WSL Pro Junior series represents the first step into professional surfing, providing emerging athletes with the opportunity to compete in Qualifying Series events before progressing to the Challenger Series and ultimately the Championship Tour.

The pathway has already produced world-class results. Last year's Tweed Coast Pro Junior champions, Dane Henry (AUS) and Isla Huppatz (AUS), both went on to win the WSL World Junior Championships and earn places on the 2026 Challenger Series in the process, highlighting the important role Pro Junior events play in developing Australia's future surfing stars.

Run by Surfing Queensland in partnership with Noosa Boardriders Club, the inaugural Murf Electric Bikes Noosa Pro Junior Presented by Surfboard Empire is expected to attract many of Australia's leading Under 20 surfers while showcasing the vibrant surf culture and world-class waves that have made Noosa one of Australia's most iconic surfing destinations.

The launch of the inaugural Murf Coast Cup represents a significant step forward for the WSL Pro Junior pathway in Australia. Driven by the shared vision of Noosa Boardriders Club and Kingscliff Boardriders Club, the series brings together two World Surf League Pro Junior events to create greater opportunities for emerging surfers while strengthening the national high-performance pathway.
