WSL Title Race Ready to Heat Up at Surf City El Salvador Pro Presented by Corona Cero
The world's best prepare for Central America's world-class point break of Punta Roca for Stop No. 5 of the 2026 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), the Surf City El Salvador Pro Presented by Corona Cero, beginning June 5 through 15.

Following the first-ever CT in New Zealand, all eyes shift to El Salvador's tropical waters, where the World Title race prepares for more high-performance action. 2025 event victor Gabriela Bryan (HAW) returns wearing the yellow leader jersey, her second time this season atop the rankings, alongside recent Corona Cero New Zealand Pro winner Italo Ferreira (BRA). Central America's Famed Punta Roca Awaits World's Best
El Salvador is known for its hundreds of miles of coastline, which offer some of the world's premier waves. Now in its fifth year of hosting the CT as a crucial stop in the World Title race, La Libertad's Punta Roca, also known as La Punta, will push the world's best progression, power, and flow. The cobblestone lineup relies on Southern Hemisphere swells that provide pristine right-handed walls, lining up for a multitude of world-class surfing. 2025 witnessed monumental wins for CT veteran Jordy Smith (RSA) and one of the women's leading power surfers, Gabriela Bryan (HAW). But, due to injury, Smith will not be competing at Punta Roca for 2026.
A pivotal stop, the Surf City El Salvador Pro Presented by Corona Cero could be the turning point for competitors looking to regain ground lost at the start of the year and set up the back half of 2026. Vital Points for Rankings Leaders to Push, Lower Seeds to Fight Back
With Bryan and Ferreira in solid frontrunner positions following the Aussie Treble and New Zealand Pro, the field is looking to respond. The rookie class continues to show glimpses of their potential, but only Olympic Gold Medalist Kauli Vaast (FRA) heads into El Salvador ranked within the men's Top 22, and Basque Country, Spain's first CT woman, Nadia Erostarbe (ESP), looks to remain the only rookie closing in on the Top 10. But, this venue could be the spark needed for the likes of Brazil's rookie sensation Mateus Herdy (BRA) and the youngest CT qualifier ever, Tya Zebrowski (FRA), to show their explosive progression, along with the likes of Luke Thompson (RSA) and Oscar Berry (AUS), who come from respective, iconic right point breaks.
Plus, CT veterans such as 5x World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Carissa Moore (HAW) look to continue her recent winning success following New Zealand, as eight-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Kanoa Igarashi (JPN), and more look to find a major spark toward another World Title race.
