Competition Off for Next Two Days at Western Australia Margaret River Pro

MARGARET RIVER, Western Australia, Australia (Wednesday, April 22, 2026) - With strong swell and onshore winds continuing to lash the coast around Margaret River, the holding pattern will continue at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro, Stop No. 2 of the 2026 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT). With only 14 heats remaining and lighter, offshore winds forecast from Friday, the decision has been made to keep the event on Standby until at least Friday, when conditions become more contestable later this week.

"We did have a small bit of hope that the wind could become more favourable on Wednesday, but when the forecast changed, it was decided to continue the holding pattern through the week until Friday," said WSL VP of Tours and Competition Renato Hickel. "We will make a call on Friday and will update that call time on Thursday afternoon once we have a clearer idea of the winds that will be forecasted for that morning."

When competition resumes, we will see the Quarterfinals contested on both the men's and women's sides. Women's Heat 1 will see two Main Break standouts, Gabriela Bryan (HAW) and Sawyer Lindblad (USA), go head-to-head. As well as wearing the Yellow Leaders Jersey, Bryan is in the hunt for a third straight win at this location from a fourth straight Final, while Lindblad is looking to break through and claim her maiden win at the elite level.

Quarterfinal 4 will witness 2024 World Champion Caitlin Simmers (USA) take on the returning Five-time World Champion Carissa Moore (HAW) as Moore looks to claim a historical fourth victory at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro.

San Clemente's Crosby Colapinto (USA) will need to bring all of the form that saw him take his first CT heat win over his older brother Griffin in Round Three if he's to take down the returning three-time World Champion and former winner in Margaret River, Gabriel Medina (BRA) in men's Quarterfinal 2.

Reigning World Champion Yago Dora's (BRA) strong title defence has continued at CT Stop No. 2 with a Quarterfinal berth once again. Dora has a chance to regain the Yellow leaders' jersey with another heat win here, but will have to overcome an in-form George Pittar (AUS) in Quarterfinal 3, as Pittar looks to find himself another Semifinal spot at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro.
